The AMS has received over 340 reports so far about a fireball event over Arizona on June 2nd 2016 around 03:57am MST EDT (10:57 UT). The fireball was seen primarily from Arizona but witnesses from Utah, New Mexico, California, Texas and Nevada also reported the event.

Huge Fireball over Northeastern US

The AMS has received nearly 700 reports so far about a fireball event over Northeastern US on May 17th 2016 around 12:50am EDT (4:50 UT). The fireball was seen primarily from Maine but witnesses from Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ontario (Canada) and Qu├ębec (Canada) also reported the event.

Very large fireball over UK

The AMS received over 45 reports so far about a fireball event over UK (England) on Thursday, March 17th 2016 at 3:16 GMT. The fireball was seen primarily from England but witnesses from France and the Netherlands also reported the event. We expect more reports today.

It’s Fireball Season!

While March is the least active month for shower meteor activity (no major annual showers are active this month), Northern spring is a good time to see fireballs. In the weeks around the start of spring, NASA noticed that the appearance rate of fireballs can increase by as much as 30 percent.

November 2015 – Fireball Surge

The American Meteor Society has logged a record number of fireball reports in the last two weeks. In the whole of 2015 there have been 472 unique fireball events witnessed by 5 or more people each. 172 of those have been logged in the last 11 days.
