December 1, 2013 (UT) - In total of 25 meteors were observed from Tierra del Sol, So California starting at 05:35 (UT) with a 15 minute brake at 08:15 (UT). 14 Sporadic & 11 Northern Taurids meteors were documented. The Northern Taurids observed ranged from 0 to 3d magnitude with most averaging 1st-2nd in brightness. All Northern Taurids exhibit very short trains, no colors and medium/ slow in speeds. From my vantage point the radiant was 5-6 degrees south and centered on Beta & Iota Auriga on the Auriga/Taurus boarder.
Out of the 14 sporadics, a majority had fast velocity and ranged from 1st to 4th magnitude and exhibiting no color. 3 meteors exhibited smoke trails with maximum duration remaining visible for ¼ to ½ second. Most showed a 10-15 degree long trails. A large number of sporadic meteors documented with most being 1st and 2nd magnitude traveling from north to south through Orion. No fireballs were seen and observations ended at 09:20 (UT).
