Remarks I was driving a '96 Yukon west-bound on Old Charlotte Hwy. The object came across, roughly SE-to-NW at an extrememly high speed. I was surprised not to hear a boom as it seemed to be very large and very low in the sky. It crossed my field of vision through my windshield as I was driving. The duration was probably equal to, or slightly longer than I've seen meteors shooting during showers. The relative size was 3x the size of the full moon, from my vantage point. It was oval-shaped with the long, straight train that concentrated into a point, rather than spread. Concerning the shape, the front appeared to be pushing against the atmosphere, giving it the pressure in front and plasma(?) surrounding it. I thought it was going to impact south of Charlotte, NC, it was so big and low. My immediate gut instinct estimated 10,000 ft. in excess of 2,000 mph, but I'm no expert. I'm a Police Officer and have been in law enforcement since 1982. I'm pretty good at speeds, but usually deal with terrestrial speeders! I called it in to our Communications center, hoping others would report it also. I had my windows up and stereo on at the time, but turned it off and opened the window after it passed. I never heard anything. I wish I had it on video. It was an awesome sight and I thank God it didn't hit...
