Reports Report 86d (Event 86-2011)

Observer
Name Scott H
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks This was a large green fireball. Much larger than any meteoroid I have ever witnessed. It did not burn out fast, but moved at a slower rate than a typical "shooting star", and stayed green as it moved across my view from straight ahead and off to my left. It went below the treeline from my point of view, but I saw so indication of a flash indicating impact. The duration was several seconds, witnessed by myself and a friend. We immediately started looking for news of the sighting on the web, and found that many people saw a similar object as far south as the southeast US (Georgia, South Carolina). No one reported an impact. I saw a report of near-earth objects on the NASA/JPL website that indicates an object of approx 15m in size passing near on this date. I'm curious if I saw a large meteoroid or an asteroid. I reported my sighting to www.lunarmeteorhunters.com and was told it may have been a fragment of the asteroid. Please contact me with news when available.
