Reports Report 2893d (Event 2893-2016)

Observer
Name Kenneth A
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks I observed this bolide as a passenger in a moving vehicle. Observational degree of confidence very high. (I am certain it was a bolide.) Object first observed when it cleared top of windshield; vanished above a middle cloud deck. Duration of observation just over one (1) second. Location and time are both approximate. (Sorry, I was so astonished that I had actually seen a bolide that I did not immediately check my watch.) Also not certain as to the direction in which I was moving; therefore, not certain of the object's trajectory (but we were headed in a generally northward direction and I'm pretty sure the object was moving SW to NE). Object was bright white and compact with NO visible tail; I am assuming that it was in the upper atmosphere. It did not vary in size or brightness during the time I observed it. Observational conditions at the time: visibility excellent, partly cloudy with cirrus and patchy broken middle cloud. Lost sight of object as it vanished above middle cloud deck. Experience: former meteorologist (Penn State 1973) and amateur weather observer (routine weather observations performed for over six years). I would be very interested in learning whether this object has been tracked.
