Remarks | My estimate of the time of the event is based on looking at my watch after the event, seeing a time of 2:39 AM and estimating that about 2 minutes had passed since the event. I wear a Casio Pathfinder Sport, which is accurate to a fraction of a second. |

Terminal flash | |
---|---|
Observation | Yes |
Remarks | I was facing roughly north when the area around me suddenly became illuminated quite bright as though a vehicle with its headlights on was entering the parking area (Cape Royal Point, Grand Canyon National Park) and driving directly towards me. I turned in the direction of the illumination (to my right) and saw the fireball well up in the eastern sky. |
Fragmentation | |
---|---|
Observation | Yes |
Remarks | There was obvious fragmentation as the fireball streaked downward toward the SE horizon. The event was short, perhaps 2-seconds in length. The length of the fragmentation train was roughly 30-40 degrees. When the event ended, the fragmentation train quickly dimmed. I did not see a remnant glow or indication of a debris cloud in the sky, which was illuminated by a 3rd quarter Moon. |
