Reports Report 2083bj (Event 2083-2016)

Observer
Name Jon S
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks My notes taken at the time read: "Started 25º elevation in the NE, dropped to 10º ENE, where it extinguished." I had no compass, but estimated the azimuths by comparing the location of the Moon, Jupiter, and Mars as seen in the sky, with their locations as seen on an astronomy app on my iPod. The slightly different azimuths reported on this Web site are based on the alignment with the picnic table where I was sitting (that is visible in the satellite photograph) and the adjacent parking lots and buildings. Whatever the inaccuracies in the azimuths, I can certainly say this bolide appeared in the north. Its brightness bloomed a bit after I first saw it, then stayed momentarily constant, and finally faded. Its extinguishing was surprisingly sudden. It did not fade to nothing, but rather to a lesser brightness before suddenly ending.
