Reports Report 1992as (Event 1992-2016)

Observer
Name Linda W
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks It was not yet dark in DC, and this object was large and bright. It didn't look like a nighttime meteor (the "shooting star" type) or a distant airplane or satellite. It seemed bigger and more like a ball. I was driving and observed this through my windshield. I chose the "2-5 seconds" duration option but duration was at the short end of that -- 2-3 seconds probably. I found your brightness scale difficult to use and don't feel confident about my estimate of that, especially because the sky wasn't fully dark yet. I initially wondered if it could be a remnant of someone's firework but there were no others and no noise, and angle seemed too shallow.

Remarks Towards the end of its path the light seemed to split and stutter perhaps twice, then went dark. It looked a little like a piece of firework coming down and burning out but wasn't that.
