Remarks | I've never seen anything like this before in my life. After reading your FAQs, I believe what I saw was definitely a bolide. I'm no expert, but I thought something would have definitely made it to the ground and I think it would have landed in the Greeley area. It was so bright that I'm sure security cameras caught it from Denver all the way to Fort Collins. I would also expect that people in the Greeley area may have reported a sonic boom (or 2). It may have occurred a minute or two prior to 1:15 am. I was flipping out for a few minutes explaining it to my friend (who was facing south and did not see it) and when I looked at my watch it read 1:17 am, but it's 1 minute fast. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks. Rob |

Terminal flash | |
---|---|
Observation | Yes |
Remarks | The first flash was visible and bright greenish-blue, but definitely more green. Very beautiful and teardrop shaped. This flash was very visible and lit up the sky before it dropped behind the rocks next to our campsite. After the object had dropped a little farther there was another flash that lit up the relatively low clouds to the north so much that I completely expected to hear a noise -- probably because it looked so much like when I've seen fireworks light up clouds before. I saw no fragmentation from the first flash and the second flash occurred after it had dropped behind the rocks, so I don't know if it fragmented after the second flash. |
