| Remarks | Approximately 5 minutes prior to maximum azimuth I saw a strikingly bright (brighter than a full moon) object in the east, flickering like a star. The object remained motionless for at least two minutes. I thought (somewhat whimsically) if it was a nova, I would hear about it on the news. I turned to the north and continued to walk for approximately two minutes when I saw the bolide cross the northern sky. I have seen a rocket re-enter that atmosphere and it had a similar behavior in that it started as bright stationary point of light then increased its angular velocity and broke apart into fragments after traversing an ~45 arc. If the object I saw on the horizon was the same object, the behavior was almost identical to the rocket re-entry. If you have the opportunity to reply, I would appreciate a confirmation of this observation. |
