I was wearing headphones watching a movie with a fan blowing behind me which I saw the object. So, these could have masked any sound made by the object; which may have been observable otherwise.

It exploded and orange spray (like a firework). The spray traveled a short distance in a similar angular trajectory as the whole object (but angled slightly more downward) before going dark.
