I saw it driving down 77 North towards exit 23 (Huntersville, NC) on my way home from work - time was around 6:05-6:15 PM. The flash is what initially caught my eye. It was very bright. It appeared to be spherical in shape with a tail trailing behind. The ball was much larger than the tail and was white/yellow in color. I saw flames appear near the top of the tail (closest to ball) and these flames disappeared and reappeared twice (from what I personally witnessed) almost as it was accelerating. It was much larger and much brighter than any plane lights or air towers and did not flash - the ball had constant illumination and never dimmed. I lost sight of it due to tree lines.
