It just appeared and then shot downwards at an angle. I came and went. Took about 3 seconds. I didn't see any smoke whatsoever. I initially thought it was a shooting star but being in the city didn't believe that was possible.

It was glowing and looked like the tail of a shooting star. The tail gradually disappeared but it had gotten really long before it did.
