I live in Lotus, Ca. We are basically in the country and on our five acre parcel we have many tall oak trees. I awakened in the early morning hours to step outside and take a pee - in case you're wondering what I was doing at 2:45 A.M. in the morning in my driveway. I was actually looking in a northerly direction when I suddenly saw a huge light flash against the trees I was looking at to the north. I was puzzled because car lights from the near road cannot light up the trees in such a fashion. I immediately swung around to face south and then saw the quite big fireball descending. Because we live down in a creek basin, the fireball descended and disappeared behind trees and hills. Mind you, all of this happened in estimated 5-7 seconds, but was bright enough to illuminate the trees! Noting the time... the fireball happened at 2:48 A.M., give or take a minute. A compass reading revealed that when I saw the greatest of the fireball, it was at a due south reading from where I stood.
It did not descend at an exact 90 degree, but more like (and I forget which way to read the degree angle) a 80 degree or 110 degree angle. In other words when I first saw it at about 30 degrees in the sky - that was a due south direction. Projecting where it would have impacted... that would have been more like S 10-15 degree East. Hope this makes sense. Email or call if not. And let me know if you get other reports and what you find.
