The meteor might have been visible much higher, but I was driving and saw it when it got low enough to see through the top of the passenger window. Therefore the reported direction is approximate and based on seeming perpendicular to the road. My position may be off a few hundred yards, but no more. From the car, the sky was bright enough so I couldn't see any stars. The meteor, if that's what it was, was bright enough to draw my attention instantly. It seemed fully bright to within a few degrees of the horizon, when it disappeared behind nearby obstacles. I am not totally sure that it was a meteor, but it was brighter and faster than the ISS, I think.
When I say I have some observing experience, it just means I've seen a few meteor showers, a couple of eclipses, the ISS, sunspot images projected on paper with binoculars, and Jupiter's moons in a lousy telescope.
