Reports Report 532bo (Event 532-2014)

Observer
Name Arthur D
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks I was able to watch the object for just under 5 seconds.I am unsure how long the fireball may have been visible before it caught my attention, as it came into view already low on the horizon.. I live on a ridge line at 1000 foot elevation with a nearly unobstructed view of the Southern horizon, so I first thought I was seeing the landing lights from a commercial aircraft on approach to Newark-Liberty International Airport, which I see frequently on clear evenings (I also have experience flying military jets). While the apparent brightness of the object was roughly comparable to the landing lights from a commercial aircraft about 15 miles out, I quickly realized the object could not be an aircraft, as it was moving away from me, which means if it were an aircraft landing light it would have to be going backwards. No sound, no flash, no trail: The object simply faded from view after about 5 seconds of observation.
