Reports Report 5690w (Event 5690-2024)

Observer
Name Brandon A
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks I was a passenger on a commercial flight descending into Washington, DC from Ohio on October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:45 PM EDT. The fireball appeared through my airplane window. From my vantage point at cruising/descending altitude, the meteor appeared shockingly close — roughly 200–300 feet away in apparent distance, though I understand this was an illusion due to lack of reference points. It was extremely bright (estimated magnitude -13, brighter than a full moon), moved very fast, and vanished completely within a few seconds. No sound was heard. My perspective from altitude may offer a different viewing angle than ground-based witnesses. I believe this is the same event logged as AMS #2710 for 2024.
