Reports Report 4189a (Event 4189-2026)

Observer
Name Harry S
Experience Level 1/5
Remarks On the evening of June 9, 2026 (approximately 6:40-6:50 PM]), while driving near Woodville in the Hunter Valley region of NSW, Australia, I observed a rare Earth-grazing fireball. It appeared as a steady bright light similar to a car headlight viewed from the side (not blinding), with a distinct glowing heat wake/plasma around it and a faint large arch/bow shock emanating from the front. The object moved slowly in a mostly horizontal path across the sky from a side-ish perspective. It had a large apparent size overall — the bright head plus the dispersed smoky/persistent dust trail and wake spanned roughly person-height from my viewpoint. The event lasted about 2 minutes, with the trail lingering and the object seeming to rise slightly higher near the end before fading to orange/red and disappearing. No sound was heard. This matches descriptions of a long-duration Earth-skimming meteor.
