Reports Report 3867bd (Event 3867-2026)

Observer
Name Nancy M
Experience Level 1/5
Remarks I was driving south on I-89 South at a speed of 65 mph. At exactly 2:02 PM, my husband saw the yellow 'Bear Crossing' text warning sign in Sharon, Vermont (near mile marker 6.2), and simultaneously I witnessed a highly brilliant fireball meteor directly out my windshield toward the southeastern horizon. It was a bright, vivid orange color and looked exactly like a blazing object engulfed in flames crashing down. Because of my perspective driving forward on the highway, it created a strong optical illusion of falling straight down vertically into the distant tree line. Before disappearing from view, it looked like a rope of liquid lava. Brightest orange I've ever seen. Against a clear blue sky background. No sonic boom or sound of any kind was heard at our location.
