Remarks I saw a news report this morning about a fireball observed in the midwest on Dec 26th. Initially, I was excited because I thought it may be the same object my wife and I saw early that morning while leaving her folks and heading back to Florida. It was notable to me because my wife was still awake after navigating me out of her hometown early that morning and she saw it. I commented to her that it appeared that the object could have touched the ground. Of course, I told her that these things can be deceiving and though it looked low, could have been way up in the atmosphere hundreds of miles away. After researching, I discovered that this object was seen in the evening, so not the same object. What I saw may not be considered a fireball, but it was probably one of the largest meteors I have seen. I saw another object of similar magnitude in rural Texas while driving one night with my father. What was strange was that it looked like a firework, but coming almost straight down to the earth. Had the circumstances been different and I been in my truck, I would have gotten out and taken a bearing with my compass that I keep in my truck.
