Having observed the destruction of space launch Challenger from this same location...I do not think it was a normal meteo. It is the second disentegrsting fire body with green flashing lights and bright sparks following in the same trajectory that seemed to not look like a simple meteor. And the contrail persisted. I have photos of the contrail from my first bier point to my he last which was obstructed by trees.

Remarks
Facing east the larger brighter fire ball Streaking low across the dawn sky was followed by sleds bright fireball which seemed to be disintegrating sparks with consistent flashes of green light for a time. A second more faint contrail parallel to the the that left by first fireball seemed to not show up in photos I took after the fire ball events had passed into my southern horizon.
