This was the second of two meteors we saw that night within a 30 minute time period. We also first saw what was probably space junk slowly burning across the sky from south to north, which is why we were standing around observing the sky in the first place.

As the object fell toward the horizon it split in what looked like two parts, one larger than the other, before it faded out of sight in the sky.
