Reports Report 3547al (Event 3547-2025)

Observer
Name Patrick R
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks For context: I’m a marine veteran and currently acting as a Ranch manager in Southwest Texas. I have seen thousands of shooting stars in some of the most remote places on this earth, through the best night vision devices available. What I saw the other night was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The only relatable video I could find was from Russia in 2013. I do this a disservice with my lack of knowledge on the subject, but I’m more than willing any questions y’all might find helpful.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 5s
Length 25°
Remarks The train was a bright orange Color; appeared to be as thick as the fireball itself. From the front of the fireball to the end of the train was between 25 and 30° long. We didn’t see the inception of the fireball but watched it cut across the remaining sky like a hot branding iron. just before reaching the opposite horizon, it fragmented into three distinct pieces. We could see the train for about five seconds after losing visual of fragments on the horizon.

Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks My coworker and I were hunting when we noticed the fireball; unfortunately, we missed its inception. When the fireball fragmented above tree line on the horizon; it split into three distinct massive orange pieces. The pieces were at least five times bigger than anything else I’ve ever seen. Conditions: The elevated tree line was approximately 2300 feet above sea level. We were standing at roughly 2000 feet above sea level. It was a high visibility night with zero cloud cover and Little to no light pollution.
