Remarks I've never seen anything like this before. I was a passenger in a truck heading west on Highway 72 just west of Elberton, GA at approximately 12:05 PM when both I and a coworker who was driving observed the fireball falling from the sky. The fireball left a trail of smoke. The fireball lasted approximately 5 seconds, was falling at a decent speed before it disappeared above the horizon. The arc of the fireball was tilted moving slightly north as it fell and from our vantage point was slightly to the north side of Hwy 72 from our position. The fireball had evident flames and appeared to sparkle as it fell. Prior to observing the fireball we had heard a roaring sound that startled my coworker who asked me what that was. I assumed it was a train since we were near railroad tracks but did not observe a train. The fireball disappeared above the horizon and we heard nothing further or observed anything further. The trail of smoke hung in the air for about 5 minutes and slowly faded away. The sky was very clear on this day and relatively cloud free.
