When I first saw it, it was very triangular - looking almost like a large hang glider with bright, uniform light all around the edges. It looked like an isosceles triangle except missing the base— the top side of the meteor was a lot thicker and brighter than the bottom side, although there was still a visible trail there. It looked that way for a few seconds, long enough for my friends and I to speculate on what it was, and then it changed entirely. Its form changed to a more typical "shooting star" shape and the color went from a very bright scarlet-orange to a dim, desaturated light gray-green. The tail was much longer and thinner than the "triangle" form of the meteor's original appearance. It stayed like that for a little longer and then the tail disappeared and the meteor changed to a dim white speck. It flashed much brighter for a second, though not as bright as it was originally, then disappeared. If I were to say approximately how long it was in each stage, it was probably in the orangey-red stage 50% of the time it was visible, green for 35%, and white for 15%, over about 8-12 seconds. |
