| Remarks | I was out on my deck looking for migrating Broadwing hawks, which had been reported passing overhead in some number by another birder. Looking in the direction he had noted (for the hawks) is when I saw the fireball. It was of course still quite light out, and the initial trail was bright yellowish white and "sparkly", it flared out in a small explosion of greenish/yellow sparks and vanished. The whole episode lasted at most 3-4 seconds. Its path was such that it looked as if it had been "dropped" from some invisible source -- that is, almost straight down towards the horizon. This is not the first fireball, I have seen (and reported) but the other one was at night and longer path/duration. |
