The angles I reported may be slightly off from start to finish (I think the angle was roughly 126°SE..., when I tried overlaying my view in Sky Tonight/Star Walk 2) but the first question that asks you to demonstrate the trajectory helped a lot. My son and I were watching the street lights turn on from 8:30-just after 9 pm from the second story window, when we observed it shoot downwards in a relatively slow motion manner. My estimated time might be out by 20 mins max; we were only at the window actively watching between 8:30-9:10 pm)
It was slower and far brighter than the satellites that I tend to see in our skies, and slower than a shooting star. The tail was very bright; orange-white, but not like the images posted here that weren't acceptable... I've not seen anything quite like it before, but was almost identical to the example video on this site.
It really surprised me as it was still quite bright outside (not all streetlights were on yet), we still had pink in the sky, but it was so visible that my son got a little spooked by it. Almost glittery tail |
