It was hard to see the horizon. The angle and the trees near by were too close that covered the horizon but could clearly see the full streak of light above the trees. It was almost a straight down streak but it was angled more to the north when we were facing east. My Husband observed it as well as we were turning onto the driveway to turn into the Wallgreens parking lot. I didn't look at the time until 23:51 when I was telling the staff what we saw, so I guessed at the time we saw it because we parked pretty quickly. We know it wasn't a shooting star because because we've seen them before along with ligh metior showers (but usually catch them when it's nearly over). We didn't hear a sound but we were in the car and had Christmas music playing. This was the brightest thing I have ever seen in the sky that if the full moon was behind a rubber screen and someone just stabbed it letting the bright light through for a moment as it seeled back up but had a touch of a redish orange bottom. I felt like it was a concentrated auroraborialis that it was so bright. To me if I was to measure at a distance it looked about almost 1-2 inches long if I was to try to measure to make a painting of the scene. I sadly could not get my phone opened in time to capture it and wish we had a dash cam or if a ring camera was facing that direction.
