Reports Report 2648b (Event 2648-2013)

Observer
Name Andrew N
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks Not sure of the start point of the meteor; it appeared almost overhead to me but I was standing close to my home. I noticed a white brightness first and thinking it was someone lighting fireworks looked up from what I was doing. It grew bright enough to light up my back yard clearly (it was dark, sunset having occurred ~2h40min earlier) and I first noted it nearly overhead and watched it disappear just behind the tip of a large spruce tree when it got dark again. There was a sound like a roaring fire as it passed across the sky - I'm fairly certain I actually heard that sound, as surprised as I was to do so. The initial white reflection from the sparse cloud cover gave way to a greenish-blue streak. Using the 10 degree outstretched fist estimate, I'd say I saw it travel about 60 or 70 degrees across the sky. Unsure about the exact time but it was between 20h55 & 21h00 Atlantic Daylight Time.
