Reports Report 5117aa (Event 5117-2024)

Observer
Name Kayla H
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I know that every meteor is burning, but this one actually looked like it was on fire. I was driving at the time, and it happened to show up directly in front of me. It was so bright I couldn't miss it. I had never seen a shooting star that was orange or exploded or had fragments like this one. I keep wondering if it was something like a drone or something else that was in the sky that caught fire and exploded, but it was shooting downwards SO fast, I can't imagine it was something that had been flying moments before it caught fire. I didn't realize it was an option to report fireballs until now, so it's been a few weeks since I saw it, and I'm still very curious to know if anyone else saw it.

Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks It seemed to explode a couple times on it's way down. Once, immediately after it came in to view. It looked like it was on fire. It was messy looking, not a clean, bright white streak like every other shooting star I've seen. I saw some other bits of things falling and burning along side it. Then, there was an even brighter flash as it disappeared.
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks It looked like one, large chunk of something falling incredibly fast, almost straight down, but slightly to the right, and around this big, burning chunk were a few smaller pieces that didn't burn the entire length of the streak I saw. I don't know how many there were, since it was there and gone so fast.
