It was completely silent and I missed most of the event because I was looking at the ground, but it was much brighter than a star and probably lasted 3-5 seconds (quite a bit longer than a shooting star)

Remarks
I was outside looking at the ground on a moonless night when I noticed that the ground lit up like the moon had suddenly popped up so I looked at the sky to see what it was and I saw the very end of what appeared as a stationary but very intense surging white flash
