Reports Report 4700fg (Event 4700-2024)

Observer
Name Bradley F
Experience Level 5/5
Remarks Time is approximate as we were ending a long walk without phone or watch. I was enjoying the summer triangle (Vega nearing the zenith) when my wife noticed something in the West that shocked her. It moved about the rate of the ISS from roughly Hercules (where I saw it) to possibly Aquarius (due to heavy pollution in the south I could not see stars there). Brighter than Venus I would say. It left an impressive trail. As a 30+ year amateur astronomer I've seen thousands of meteors, many bolides and even a launch from Vandenburg, but nothing like this. It could have been a satellite reentry, but I think more likely a meteor breaking up. It was not a contrail. Our estimated times of visibility are very rough and it was emotional. A once in a life time view of something spectacular. Others must have seen it but I cannot find anything on the internet as of yet.
