It flashed brighter than the sun. The entire area was lit for just a fraction of a second. It reminded me or a camera flash but many times larger.

Remarks
trail went from east to west and had a skip mark in the middle - looked like a vapor trail from a plane with a bulge in the middle.
Terminal flash
Observation
Yes
Remarks
I looked directly at it (I was watching a helicopter overhead just before). It was a very bright flash - and it looked like there was a trail before the flash and after the flash. (there was a bulge in the trail where it exploded. I did not see any fragments but the trails remained for about 40 seconds. There were 7 of my group watching. I was the only one to see it directly as I was facing them from a small distance and looking up at the helicopter.
