lasted longer than most shooting stars i have seen, which mostly are fast and fading. but this was bright, i saw it out of my peripheral and had enough time to turn quickly and watch it last almost 5 seconds. the light was thicker of fuller than i have seen, like a blob. initially just 1 piece flying but pieces of light broke off from it, multiple pieces at least 2 or 3 pieces, never seen that before, then all of it faded. i think it flew over Lillington, NC, relatively, at a height of what i think may have been 8,000-12,000 ft in altitude, traveling south to North. within 10 seconds of that transpiring, i saw an aircraft flying appear from behind some scattered clouds and it was the same area of the sky spatially where i saw the meteor, this was only 1 aircraft traveling north, i believe it was at about the same altitude 8,000-12,000(?) traveling fast, white signal lights on wings flashing on/off. then seconds after the first plane i saw 2 more planes of the same description traveling opposite to the first, these traveled north to south, flew relatively close so i assume they were together and looked identical to the first; traveling fast, same relative altitude as the meteor, white lights flashing on/off, flew threw the meteors wake or flight path, but this time i took off my headphones and could hear the wake of jets. also checked my flightradar app and i did not see any aircraft over central nc at that time that were matching my observations or direction so i assume military. also the white lights on all 3 aircraft, 1 flying north and 2 flying south, so while i could not see the physical makeup of the craft, they all flew identically, fast and over the same space in the sky. ( i apologize for so much for such a little incident. i am a curious, questionable human with a propensity to say a whole lot and to provide as much context as I can think of.)
In recap, I saw a object burn up in the atmosphere and fragment, it was the first time i seen something like that, most shooting stars i've seen are quick and at night with a dark sky and some stars. this was at dusk as the sun was just setting past the horizon, so still light out, not really night yet and the way it looked was different. and second i've never any jets, let alone multiple jets show up within 10-20 seconds total and also fly in the same relative space (latitude and longitude and altitude) which i guessed maybe they were aware to the meteor enter the airspace and inspecting it. I have never seen a single jet follow up on the other shooting stars i seen before, which makes sense because the ones i usually see are far away (i think i can tell because of the meteor/object is smaller in size or light, flies fast and fades away fast but also arcs a lot more, the one i saw today seemed pretty low, pretty straight, slower than im use to seeing, and it was brighter than "my normal" and it lasted lingered and broke into multiple fragments. (*i say this seemed odd, i just mean this was a n |
