Reports Report 2218d (Event 2218-2013)

Observer
Name Suzanne G
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks it lasted long, the whole trail was quite wide, at the beginning it was as wide as the head near the head and perhaps about 20% to 30% toward the end of the trail. As I first saw it, it was stretching from Markab (alpha Peg) at the tail to Alpha Andromeda ( head of the fireball). I live in a very wooded area on the northwest side of a steep hill so it only appeared above the trees all of a sudden already at that huge size. Fantastic experience!

Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks I first saw the very bright fire color head with a fire line trailing - actually quite wide tail- as if it were a sort of fireworks but all in one long and wide piece. the head was much bigger than the trail and roundish. It seemed like it started accelerating and then it started blowing up into pieces
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks the head remained the biggest part throughout. it started breaking up behind the head, one first piece that was also much bigger than the trailing part came off then a second later a second piece and then between 4 and 8 pieces almost all at once, with the head remaining the biggest piece. As all pieces broke loose behind the head, then there were no more trail between them, complete darkness between each piece but some sort of diminished trail at the far end was still lingering.then no more trail ( or I can't remember well enough) but all pieces were very distinct and very spiky (small but numerous spikes) and very well separated, almost 1/2 to 1 finger between each piece. Then all disappeared almost at once, with the head disappearing last. It was fascinating. I had never seen such a thing in my life. It was huge.
