Reports Report 2547f (Event 2547-2024)

Observer
Name Scott B
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I was outside at the time. I was not already looking at the night sky. The brightness caught my attention. Very bright and large. Anyone outside looking north by north-west will have seen the burning, fragmenting, object. Given the large size, low speed, brightness, and train, it looked like an object that could impact the earth's surface less than 100 miles from my location

Delayed Sound
Observation Unknown
Remarks -
Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 2s
Length 10°
Remarks The train was not a smooth. The trail appeared to have debris that was burning up. A smoke-filled area encompassed the object and the train, as it could be seen. After the brightness was gone, aprox 3 sec. smoke train could not be seen. As the object went by it appeared to be moving through clouds, but moments afterwards 20 sec I realized that there were no clouds in the field of view. There are clouds to the west but it is a very clear night sky.
Terminal flash
Observation No
Remarks -
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks There was not an ending flash. The bright fragmenting object continued below the horizon. Given my vantage point there are single story homes approximately 100 meters from my location. The fragment could be seen in front of the fireball. The fragment appeared to be chunks. The fireball object appeared to be moving slower than other "shooting star" type objects that we have seen before.
