Remarks I was shooting baskets at the basketball court near my house just after dark. After shooting a basket, I turned around facing north and saw the brightest shooting star I've ever seen, traveling west toward Tumamoc hill in Tucson. The head of the fireball was large and bright, the tail of it was wide and relatively short. The end of the tail had red but especially green color at the very end of the tail. I believe I was looking almost directly north when it appeared, slightly to the left of north. I witnessed it for several seconds arcing west before it disappeared. It is difficult to say how long it lasted but on reflection, probably no more than 5 seconds. I believe it was around 8 PM (Tucson time - which does not observe daylight savings time) when I saw it. I would be interested to know if there were any other reports around this time.
