Reports Report 1686b (Event 1686-2024)

Observer
Name Luke P
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks I was standing on the beach trying to identify a light in the horizon when I saw the meteor/fireball. When it occurred, it was seemingly just a very bright light moving across the sky, after which it gained color, then a tail. deepening in color, and then “fizzling” out (followed by its tail). I first noted the time, and then used my phone compass to take a screenshot of the direction I first noticed it and last noticed it. After that, I used my astronomy app SkyView to identify a star that seemed as close as I could find to where I thought it started in the sky and ended in the sky. It started approximately at the location where the star called l CEN (can’t type actual character on the phone) with an alternative name HD 115892 was at at 12:35 a.m. from Key Colony Beach FL. It ended approximately at the location (at the same time and from the perspective at the same place) of the star Z OPH aka HD 149757. These are the stars I used for the data I provided in the report but hopefully that is helpful in identifying its location better
