Remarks I'm an undergraduate astronomy major and I observe upwards of 50 times per year. I have over five years of amateur and professional astronomy experience. It was the brightest meteor I've ever personally seen. It originated around the star Al Kab in Auriga and trended due North towards the horizon. If you take the directional data from the map, you'll note an apartment complex on top of a bar and grill called The Boathouse. The meteor tracked North from Auriga until it appeared to clip behind the top right corner of the apartment complex from my perspective and then briefly reappeared before fading out ~10 degrees above the horizon. Most memorably, the fireball had a bright yellowish/orange hue. The full duration was 3-4 seconds. I would clock the magnitude as around -5 or -6, noticeably brighter than Venus, though not so bright as to cast shadows amid the streetlights.
