For almost two solid seconds, it seemed from horizon to horizon 360 degrees we were in a dome of bright blue light. For those brief two seconds it seemed we were all froze in time wondering if we were about to hear some ear splitting sound because our first thought was lightning or an electrical explosion of some sort. When the blue light that lit up the entire neighborhood dissipated we looked directly up to see something slicing across the sky from directly overhead and then on a W/NW trajectory for another 2-3 solid seconds. What was also wild was the trail of smoke this object left lingering in the sky for probably another 30 seconds. About 30-60 seconds later we began to hear several booms in the far distance. I have sky-watched during meteor showers before and witness several meteors an hour but the comparison of those to this is like comparing a bottle rocket launch and a space shuttle launch.
