Remarks This was the most spectacular meteor that I've ever seen, and I was lucky enough to grab a few photos before it disappeared below the horizon. As a semi-professional photographer, I usually have one or two cameras ready at hand at all times, as was the case this evening. It was visible for 7 or 8 seconds as it streaked across the southwestern sky, and had a gorgeous tail of brilliantly-colored gases (I assume they were gases). For a meteor, it appeared HUGE! Judging from the spirals in the tail, it appeared to be spinning in a counter-clockwise direction. Taken from the southernmost loop at Holmes Bend Marina and Recreation Area parking lot on Green River Lake, Adair County, KY (37.220974°N 85.268755°W). Nikon D90, Nikkor 70-300mm @ 300mm. Astounding images may be viewed on my Facebook page in my "Meteor" album located here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.629146013774816&type=3. (Copy and paste the link into your address bar if necessary.) Images #2,3,4,5 & 6 were heavily cropped and enlarged at high resolution from Image #1. No other alterations of the images were performed.
