Reports Report 7927w (Event 7927-2022)

Observer
Name Peter L
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I was driving to work (military base Petawawa) on the Trans Canada Hwy 17 heading West approaching Murphy Rd. (actual compass direction is more like NNW) when I caught the bright (primarily) green with a hint of blue object out of the upper left corner of my left eye. It streaked across the sky from my left to right, more or less appearing from the left side of the road, crossing directly in front of me, and finally disappearing just to the right of the road in front of me. It left a smoke trail. It seemed low on the horizon with a slight downward trajectory towards the Ottawa River. When I got to work, I told a colleague who said he witnessed the same thing! The object appeared to come from the direction of the ranges so my initial thought was it might have been a flare but flares usually go straight up and linger for more than a minute. I'm civilian, but my colleague who witnessed the event is military and he confirmed there was no range activity this morning. What a wonderful celestial event to have witnessed!
