Because the sky was so dark and the flash was so bright when it exploded. I could not see fragments or a trail afterwards.

It was like it exploded. A big flash heading in that direction towards the Niagara US border. Difficult to estimate the distance from my location so it could’ve been in Canada. It was very dark so I did not see fragmentation or trail.
