Remarks I was down at the South Asheboro Middle School track getting a late night run in. It was partly cloudy overall at the time, but the part of the sky, towards the west where the meteor appeared, was as clear as a bell. At first, I caught the light out of the top corner of my eye then watched the whole spectacle unfold till it seemed to fizzle-out or disappear. I was waiting for an explosion, but never heard one. I was scared and amazed at the same time, as I've never witnessed such an event. I told several folks what I had seen and they thought I was crazy. I started asking around town about it and I found one other gentleman who also saw it from the North Asheboro McDonalds parking lot, he said behind some thin clouds. His sighting was the same time as mine, around 12:15am est, July 13, 2013.
