My first instinct was it was a shooting star but it didn't fade as gradually and was much much bigger than any shooting star I've ever seen. It was amazing! I'm worried I got the colour wrong and it's 'tail' was quite short, almost triangular with the point of the triangle at the front... thinking about it it was a bit like the shape of a shuttlecock.
