Remarks I believe a brief smoke trail occurred, it happened so fast because the object was very close and I was driving. Since it was close, my field of view was limited by the roof of my car.
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks This seems to be consistent with what I saw. I didn't notice the fireball until it was approximately 20 or 30 degrees on horizon, and it seemed to quickly grow from a small fireball to a larger one and seemed to disappear almost before the object went out of view behind trees. But I looked up where it came from and a brief smoke trail seemed to indicate the direction it came from (nearly straight up). It seemed like it was very close within 1 mile or less but perhaps this is an issue with perception.
Fragmentation
Observation No
