Reports Report 2389dh (Event 2389-2022)

Name Edward M

Remarks I clearly saw a very very large dark "sphere with a chunk taken out - estimated diameter of 50 km or more!" - (think of the larger area of a clock face with hands at 5 o'clock) fully engulfed in flame with a long flame tail that was about as long as the distance between the outer two stars of Orien's belt - a very long flame, and the largest area of fire was at the front and sides of the comet or enormous meteor and the flames clearly silhoutted the enormous spherical object that chearly had had a 35% chunk of it - it appeard neatly cleaved off - it looked like an angle of 140 degrees perhaps. I was looking directly west I believe and it started as a fast moving "shooting star" that was too bright and quickly - within 1 second - I realized it was a fireball that was plumeting down towards the earth at a considerable angle, within 2 seconds it was fully on fire, then the flame became enormous and clearly showed the shape of the enormous object which had to be 50 - 100 km in diameter, I believe. The full flame lasted for perhaps 1 to 2 seconds, adn then, without a sound or explosion, the flame disappeared. It was an extraordinary expereince. I wonder it it hit ground. It seemed too big not to have sizeable parts of it hit ground somewhere. I am very uncertain as to the time - it could have been anytime between 9:30 and 10:45 PM Paris time. I did not have a watch with me, and cannot estimate the time closer as I was out well dressed for a long night of full moon watching!
