It was green with a white tail. It was so close and heading in a downward direction that I thought it probably landed in the field next to the highway. I was inside a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 57 just north of Mt. Vernon, IL. I saw it at 10:37 or 10:38 pm as I called someone to tell them so I have the call time to mark the time of sighting. I was facing south and it crossed the interstate heading North - Northwest and passed out my vision to my right. I had the radio on so I did not hear anything. I told my friend on the phone that I hoped it did not hit any of the houses as I was under the impression that it came down near by but I guess it could have traveled farther before landing.
