Reports Report 986q (Event 986-2013)

Observer
Name Joe S
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks It was a very clear night sky-no clouds of any sort, stars very visible, the meteor came in from pretty much from true north out of Polaris when it became visible and went nearly true south-it terminated at about 25-30 degrees up from the S horizon, above the treeline. I have seen fireballs before but this one terminated in a way I have not seen before. It was quite a sight. I half-expected a 'boom' but waited for over 3 minutes and never heard anything.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 3s
Length 60°
Remarks Glowing white train behind the bolide, disappeared quickly as meteor moved across the sky.
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks As it moved from north to south a few small 'sparks' came off the main body, and these very quickly extinguished themselves,a terminal flash occurred at the end of the visible period of the fall, the final flash appeared bright blue and orange with an unusual expanded squarish shape-from my angle of view-as it flamed out-almost like one would see placing a foot over a small burning piece of wood at night around a campfire-with the flame flattened under the sole of the shoe.
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks As above
