Reports Report 966bi (Event 966-2013)

Observer
Name Ann K
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I didn't immediately register this as a meteor. It was just a large white light that seemed to get bigger. First I thought it was a star, then in about 2 seconds I thought it was a helicopter that had switched on its spotlight, then about 2 seconds later it fragmented. I did not see it move across the sky, it seemed to be coming straight toward me from a southerly direction.

Duration 1s
Length
Remarks I just saw what I thought was a large star, then it got really big and I thought it was a light on a helicopter. It then burst into about 4-6 pieces and I only saw a red train with one small piece that only lasted an instant before it was gone. I was facing south or southwest and it seemed to be coming straight my way. I had been looking up for about a minute when I first noticed it and it was all over in 3-5 seconds.
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks It was a large roundish white orb that burst into 4-6 pieces
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks I saw one piece was larger than the rest and that is the one that had the short train.
